Why these nineteen

Jesus told dozens of parables. One principle governed the selection.

“The kingdom of heaven is like…” — only the teachings where Jesus used that exact form, and only those recorded in Matthew, the Gospel where kingdom parables cluster most densely.

What the author found in the nineteen was not nineteen scattered lessons. It was one grain running through all of them.

Chapter 9 is the exception. Matthew 18:15–20 does not open with “the kingdom of heaven is like.” It is direct teaching on restoring broken relationships. It is included because of verse 18: whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven. For those who have found Kingdom treasure, guarding it means guarding the relationships through which Kingdom life flows.

An honest note from the author: these nineteen are not a fixed or final list. The scholarly conversation should continue. But when the passages were laid out, no framework was imposed — the stages rose from the passages themselves.

Why six stages

Six was not chosen first. The author read the parables, lived with them for years, and six patterns surfaced from the passages.

Only after those six had revealed themselves did he open Revelation 21 — and stop. The New Jerusalem, the final dwelling place of God’s people, is described as a perfect cube. Length, width, and height all equal. Six faces in perfect balance.

So the six are not a ladder you climb once and leave behind. They are the six faces of a cube.

The Cube: Six Faces, Not Six Rungs

Rows two and six are one story. What used to be a cube was a single room: the Most Holy Place, twenty cubits by twenty by twenty, entered once a year by one man. The New Jerusalem is not that room enlarged. The whole city has become that room. Which is why no temple stands inside it.

Row four is the quietest of the six. The gates carry the names of Israel’s twelve tribes; the foundations carry the names of the twelve apostles. Twelve and twelve. The old people and the new make one city. And the apostles are the foundation not because of who they were but because of the testimony they received and handed on. Paul draws the same picture: built on the foundation of the apostles, with Christ himself as the cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20). A cornerstone sets the direction and height of everything else. Even the apostles’ foundation lies along a line he set.

Each face is always present. Each is always part of the whole. Growth in the Kingdom is not always linear — sometimes circular, sometimes spiral.

What matters is not where you think you are, but whether you are still being shaped by the King.

Stage 1 · Kingdom People Who Grasp the Mystery — The door to the Kingdom opens

Frequently asked

Which stage am I in?

That question is not the point of the book. The six stages are the faces of a cube, not rungs on a ladder. Returning to an earlier stage is not going backward — it is seeing more deeply.

Is the cube the author’s own interpretation?

That the New Jerusalem is measured as long as it is wide and as high as it is long is simply what Revelation 21:16 says. Laying that shape over the six stages is the author’s reading. Scripture does not divide the stages that way.

Why only Matthew?

Mark and Luke carry parables too. But the ones built on “the kingdom of heaven is like” cluster most densely in Matthew. To see the whole, that is where you have to look.

Are these nineteen the definitive list?

No. As the author says plainly, the list is not fixed, and the scholarly conversation should continue.

How do I become a Kingdom person?

This book does not teach you how to become one. It traces the journey of someone who is already a Kingdom person, growing into a more complete one.
